The college application essay is an odd genre of writing. It is both personal and academic. You need to tell your story in a personal way while also demonstrating your academic writing skills. It is also type of writing that students will do more than once in college (and beyond). This writing workshop will introduce participants to the basic principles of writing an effective college application essay or the genre of persuasive autobiographical writing. 

What are the Humanities?  What do the Humanities have to do with me? And what do humanities have to do with my major / profession? In this workshop, students will identify and discuss the practices, skills, and intellectual virtues of a humanities education and how they apply to your chosen field of study / future profession.

What really is an “art museum”? While it might seem straightforward—a place that houses art—there’s so much more to uncover. In this workshop, we will: 1) Read and discuss excerpts from Carol Duncan’s classic, Civilizing Rituals 2) Analyze art and artifacts as part of the “Art-to-Go” experience and 3) Explore the Art Museum, inside and out. By the end of this session, participating students will gain a richer understanding of what it truly means to visit and experience an art museum.

What does Virtual Reality have to do with the humanities? In this digital humanities session, we will explore, experiment, and critically examine VR technology as a tool of teaching the humanities (Workshop session as part of 2022 Community College Humanities Association Conference).
